Chapter 3442: Dream On
Trading a question for tax money?
Ning Shu said with a smile, “You must be joking.”
“I am not. One free question,” the silver-haired man replied.
Ning Shu scoffed inwardly. Trading taxes for a single question? He wanted her to give up tens of thousands of merit and faith points for one answer? He could keep dreaming.
“No, thank you. I don’t have anything to consult right now, and I don’t have any puzzles that need solving,” Ning Shu said flatly. “Besides, you already owe me a free question.”
She had three free questions originally. She had used two, so one was still left. Why would she trade her tax revenue for another one? It was not a good deal at all.
The silver-haired man thought for a moment. “How is your world construction coming along?”
“It’s fine,” Ning Shu said dismissively, thinking, ‘Give me the money. Just give me the money.’
“Actually, even if you collect five world origins, you still won’t be able to construct a world,” he said.
“Why not?” Ning Shu asked anxiously, before immediately realizing the trap he’d set.
He really was a stingy profiteer. He would go to any lengths to avoid paying his taxes. However, since this involved the major matter of her world construction, she did not dare be careless. She saw him looking at her with an expressionless face, though his eyes held a hint of smugness.
Ning Shu cursed him in her head. To make matters worse, he would not even tell her exactly how much tax he owed. She had no idea how much she was effectively paying for this one question.
She calmed herself and asked, “Let’s talk about the taxes first. How much do you owe?”
“Not much. My consultation room has no business,” he said. “Do you want to ask about the world construction?”
Ning Shu felt stifled.
“Why can’t I construct a world even after collecting five world origins?” she asked.
If he did not give her a satisfactory answer today, she would wreck his shop. What a crook!
The silver-haired man said calmly, “There are three reasons. First, five world origins are not enough. Second, a world must have living creatures to be considered a real world. Third, those creatures must be able to live and die to maintain balance, so you need a reincarnation world.”
Ning Shu’s face went blank. “You told me before that I only needed five.”
She really wanted to kill him.
The man was fearless, completely ignoring her accusation. “Is this answer worth the taxes?”
Ning Shu crossed her legs and rested her hands on her knees. “I’m all ears.”
“Aside from metal, wood, water, fire, and earth, there are also light and dark. Therefore, constructing a world requires seven world origins.”
Ning Shu thought, ‘This jerk really is the type to only tell you half the story.’
She had wasted a free question before only to get half the information. With the way he did business, his shop deserved to go bankrupt. She had already collected three world origins and only needed two more, but now two more had suddenly appeared.
Light and dark attributes… just thinking about them made Ning Shu feel like they would be impossible to find. She glared at him, thoroughly annoyed.
“What about the second point? Can’t a plane evolve its own life forms?” she asked.
“If the conditions are right, life will naturally evolve. The important part is the reincarnation world,” the silver-haired man said.
“How am I supposed to set up a reincarnation world?” Ning Shu asked.
He shook his head. “It is actually constructing another world, which means you must build two. That world would be the destination for souls.”
Ning Shu felt a headache coming on and rubbed her temples. She felt like she had been totally screwed over. Her heart was tired beyond words. She wished she had never come to this place.
Even when this man gave consultations, he would hide many things just to ensure the customer came back to ask more questions.
You profiteer, I hope you go out of business soon.
Ning Shu looked at him. “Is there anything else you are hiding about world construction?”
He closed his book. “I have given you all the necessary information.”
Ning Shu took a deep breath, filling her lungs with the scent of agarwood. Since she paid for it, she might as well breathe in as much as she could.
“Anything else?” he asked.
Ning Shu stood up. “No. I hope that the next time I come to collect taxes, you won’t try to brush me off like this again.”
“I will,” he said, while taking his book and disappearing into the inner room.
Ning Shu left the consultation room and looked back at the door. This place was a black hole. Everything went in and nothing came out. He even found a way to dodge his taxes.
She returned to the city lord’s residence to see Xiao Huo. When he saw her, he put down his book and asked, “I don’t really understand this.”
Ning Shu looked at the books on the table. “These are too complicated for you. Read these instead.”
She handed him some children’s picture books. “Read these for now. I have to leave. Stay here from now on and don’t leave the residence if you don’t have to. Mei Ziqing will come find you once she finishes her task.”
Xiao Huo nodded. “I understand.”
“Don’t leave the residence for no reason. You are a fire-attribute world origin. You are a treasure, so don’t go running around.”
Ning Shu warned him because if he got into a fight in the City of Water, his fire element would affect the city’s barrier. She wondered why Mei Ziqing had just left him here without a care.
Xiao Huo nodded obediently. “I know. I won’t go out.”
Ning Shu looked at his hair, which trailed all the way to the floor. “Why don’t you cut your hair?”
Wouldn’t it be uncomfortable to drag it around like a mop? It would get caught on everything.
Oh, my hair is caught. Oh, I’m sitting on my hair. Oh, I tripped over my own hair.
Just thinking about it was amusing.
Xiao Huo touched his hair. “Ziqing said it looks good.”
Ning Shu: …
Mei Ziqing had such an eccentric sense of style.
“As long as you’re happy,” Ning Shu said with a nod.
She left the residence and said to 2333, “Take me back.”
She wanted to see exactly how much tax she had collected this time. Back in her system space, she immediately opened her attribute panel. When she saw the merit and faith points, she was so happy she nearly fainted. She felt like she had become a billionaire overnight.
Ning Shu clutched her chest, feeling like her heart was about to explode. Oh my god, this felt amazing. This was the tax revenue of an entire city.
She couldn’t help but revel in her joy. So much money, so much money! From now on, she was a wealthy woman. After a moment, she asked 2333, “By the way, can I buy soul power?”
She felt like she should spend some money and enjoy herself for once.
2333 said flatly, “No. Soul power is in high demand. Aside from the rewards task-takers earn themselves, all other soul power has specific uses. Therefore, it isn’t sold on the open market. Of course, it exists, but it depends on whether you can find the right channels to buy it. Even then, there is no guarantee if the soul power is pure or not.”
Ning Shu: …
If the soul was not pure and had too many impurities, it was useless and would only cause problems.
